Cherie Evans advises nonprofit organizations
with an emphasis on tax and corporate matters. She has
counseled hundreds of nonprofit organizations of all sizes,
including public charities, private foundations, supporting
organizations, social welfare organizations, and social
clubs. She has handled successful mergers, tax-exemption
applications, and dissolutions. Ms. Evans has assisted
clients with issues such as international giving, lobbying,
unrelated business income, fiscal sponsorship, self-dealing,
and public support. Prior to forming Evans & Rosen,
she was an attorney in the San Francisco law firm of Silk,
Adler & Colvin and practiced in the area of tax-exempt
organizations.
Ms. Evans received her B.A., cum laude, in 1992 from California
Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She received
her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1995
and her LL.M. in Taxation, with honors, in 2000 from Golden
Gate University School of Law in San Francisco. In 2003,
she earned an LL.M. in French and European Community Law
from the Université Paris 1 – Panthéon
Sorbonne. During her time in Paris, she interned in the
tax department of Landwell & Associés, correspondent
law firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
She is admitted to practice before the California and
federal bars. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s
Nonprofit Corporations Committee, Exempt Organizations Committee, and International Committee on NGO and Not-for-Profit Organizations. She is Vice Chair of Legislation for the California Bar's Nonprofit and Unincorporated Organizations Committee and serves as a panel attorney for California Lawyers for the Arts. Ms. Evans speaks
French.
